ON THE MOVE

Gerberpark Intergenerational Playground

The Gerberpark, located on the Nidda side opposite the Castle Park, is a completely redesigned recreational area. Various exercise machines offer targeted movement exercises that are also fun.

The Park Area for Movement and Relaxation

The spacious park area offers recreational, play, and exercise areas, as well as cooling water from the fountain. An inviting place for relaxation in nature, where stepping on the grass is explicitly allowed!

Sun-drenched meadows and shade-giving, old trees offer pleasant spots to linger.

Gerberpark is designed as a multi-generational leisure offering. It provides movement, fun, and togetherness for all generations.

The Transformation into an Excursion Destination

The place was once the dirtiest area of the city:
The river served the tanners for washing their leather and hides after tanning. The hides, stinking after tanning, had to be washed out in the flowing water of the Nidda.

To do so, they held the hides on a hook in the river. If they didn’t pay attention for a moment, the hides would float away from them – an expression we still use today.

They were not popular, as tanning heavily polluted the water and spread foul odors. The current Gerberbrunnen (Tanner’s Fountain) in the middle of the park commemorates this profession by the river.

Open daily, free admission
Barrier-free access, also for wheelchair users
