Massenheim Museum – A Journey Through Time in a Half-Timbered Idyll
Right in the heart of the historic center of the Bad Vilbel district of Massenheim stands the Old Town Hall – arguably the village’s most beautiful half-timbered house. Strictly speaking, it is an entire ensemble consisting of the Old Town Hall, the barn, the shepherd’s house, and a lovingly landscaped garden. Today, it is no longer a town hall but a museum – the local history museum.
But it offers far more than just an exhibition on the village’s history:
Regional History & Crafts
The museum impressively shows what life in the Wetterau region used to look like. From an old shoemaker’s workshop and forge to historical school and firefighting equipment, and even an old pharmacy, you can experience the daily life of past centuries firsthand.
Redesigned Themed Rooms
The exhibition areas combine historical exhibits with modern media stations. The focus is on local brick-making history, the moving stories of emigration to America in the 19th century, and Hessian apple wine culture.
Finish at the Museum Café
After the tour, the museum garden invites you to a relaxing break in the summer with its volunteer-run café – a little time-out in the countryside.
