SKYLINE TOUR
Starting point: Bad Vilbel-Süd S-Bahn station
This circular trail with several inclines reflects the unique charm of the region: it offers a fascinating combination of important historical themes – such as insights into the fate of the Siesmayer nursery, once famous far beyond the borders of Bad Vilbel – with beautiful views stretching to the Frankfurt skyline and the Taunus ridge. The tour starts in front of the Bad Vilbel Süd S-Bahn station along Berkersheimer Weg. This pleasant walk has become the “Siesmayer Allee” thanks to the accompanying information boards, commemorating what was once a significant horticultural institution. This is followed by the first ascent towards the Heilsberg district. The view increasingly opens up towards the peaks of the Taunus and also offers various glimpses of Frankfurt’s skyscraper backdrop and television tower.
Orchard meadows line the path at the edge of the district’s residential area. The fruit trees change their appearance with the seasons, from a sea of blossoms to an abundance of red apples or bright hoarfrost on bare branches – always providing a wonderful foreground and contrast to the Frankfurt skyline.
Following a meadow path slightly uphill, the trail enters the Heilsberg district, which has a young but no less interesting history. The next viewpoint awaits in the Freudenberg park. The entire central town of Bad Vilbel lies at your feet here, framed by ecological flower strips. The spot invites you to linger, with various options available for picnicking, resting, and taking in the view. From here, the path goes steeply for a short distance, then leisurely downhill through a small wood. Passing a playground for little hikers, the route leads back to the starting point at the South Station.
Massenheim’s history stretches back many millennia. Its sunny hillside location, fertile land, and access to water made the region a sought-after settlement site from early on.
The modern-day Bad Vilbel district of Heilsberg has a relatively young history: in 2023, it celebrated its 75th anniversary. Many settlements in the region are far older—ten times as old or more.
