The Hohe Straße Cycle Path
The Regional Park Route Hohe Straße is a cycling tour through the gentle rolling hills of the Wetterau all the way to the half-timbered town of Büdingen. The cycle route follows the historic course of an old trade route and runs as a ridge path through wide-open countryside. It is an extraordinary excursion destination, because you quickly feel “far away” here and closer to the sky. Panoramic views in all directions—into the natural rolling hills and to the settlements in the valley, all the way to the Frankfurt skyline.
A different view of the Rhine-Main region
Today’s Rhine-Main region, with its fertile valleys and the adjacent continuous mountain landscapes such as the Taunus or Vogelsberg, has always been a transit land for traders, peoples, pilgrims, and armies in all directions. The Hohe Straße was one section of a road network spanning all of Europe.
You can join the route anywhere in the Bad Vilbel city area along the Nidda. The Hohe Straße ends at the train station in Büdingen and is signposted in both directions.

The Tour in Detail
The Volcano Cycle Path largely follows the route of the former Oberwaldbahn, an old railway line that led from Lauterbach over the Vogelsberg mountain range and through the Wetterau region to Frankfurt.
The Regionalpark Route is a unique river experience full of contrasts. It leads through the fields of the Wetterau, one of Germany’s oldest cultural landscapes, to the source in the idyllic Vulkanland Hoher Vogelsberg Nature Park.

The cycling route “Around Bad Vilbel” is a 23-kilometer, easy-to-ride, highly varied circular cycling route with gentle inclines. It touches not only the core city of Bad Vilbel but also all its districts: Dortelweil, Gronau, Heilsberg, and Massenheim. Everywhere there are special features to discover, including nature, water, art, culture, and regional cuisine.
